Best Rt to Cass Scenic RR from Pipestem WV

We have a 33' motorhome towing a car. What is the best route from Pipestem to Cass Scenic RR? Has anyone dry camped in the parking lot at the RR? What about a day trip in the dinghy from Pipestem to Cass?

RE: Land Between the Lakes

just got back from there. Stayed at Canal. Sites near the lake are very shady and some are tight if you have a large rig. We opted to stay in the new loop, large pull thrus, no shade but we got satellite! We faced the canal but not much view due to lots of trees and vegetation (which is fine by us). We loved it and will go back. Another beautiful place we stayed is near Bowling Green KY. Baileys Point COE. Not easy to get to, but once you're there it's beautiful. I'd go there again if we were staying at least 3 or 4 nights. Went to Corvette factory and museum. Do you think I could tow a Cadillac XLR behind my motorhome without it getting paint chips?? haha

RE: Fort de Soto, Florida

If you want to do other things outside the beautiful campground and beaches, The Hurricane Restaurant on St Pete Beach is casual, pretty good seafood and a top deck bar where you can watch the sunset! Allow plenty of time. The service is sometimes slow. Their website is www.thehurricane.com Also The Pier in St Pete is a nice place to spend the day. In Tampa, there's the Aquarium and Busch Gardens and Hard Rock Casino! A drive over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to Bradenton and Sarasota is nice. Ringling Museum in Sarasota and Dali Museum in St Pete for art types. Enjoy your stay! Bring plenty of bug spray and sun screen!

RE: New Dometic refrigerator recall!

thanks for the NEW Dometic Refrigerator recall info. Ours recently quit working (2004 model) and we were checking the forums on how to troubleshoot when I came across your posting about the expansion and extension of the previous Dometic refrigerator recall. We would not have known about this without your posting. In addition, my brother-in-law's also quit working and he checked the Dometic site and his model number and serial number are now on the expanded-extended recall list. I recommend that anyone and everyone that has a Dometic refrig. check the Dometic site to see if theirs is on the list. This problem could cause a fire! Signed, grateful in FL!

RE: RV Friendly Casinos in Mississippi

We just returned from a trip to Bay St. Louis and stayed at the Silver Slipper RV Park, right across the street from the beach, view of the water! Silver Slipper Casino is just down the road and it's great. Free shuttle to the casino from the RV Park. Not sure about RV parking at the casino. Looked like room though. Free slot play and a t-shirt for joining, free play after you play awhile. A bit out of the way, off the beaten path, but worth it in my opinion. RV Park was $26 per night. After we returned home, we got mail for free play and a free night in RV park. Guess we gotta go back! Love the Casino Camper site!

RE: Washer and Dryer combo

ditto. love mine too. Small items. Use fabric softener instead of sheets, helps separate the clothes so they dry better plus it makes the motorhome smell nice!

RE: Direct TV

if you have a receiver, check to see if it has a card in the slot. Might be behind a little door. If you do have the receiver and card in the motorhome, all you have to do is call DirecTV or go online and request service. They can activate the card on the phone. If you don't have a receiver and/or card, they can mail you either or both. One word of advice: if you leave the motorhome in storage for more than 30 days and the receiver is not on, the card will deactivate. All you have to do then is go online or call and they will reset it. Takes about 3 mins. good luck!

RE: Telephone

We have Verizon and have travelled coast-to-coast with very few problems. Also have Verizon aircard for laptop which works like a charm. only 2 places so far we've traveled that we couldn't get phone or aircard signal: Hot Springs Arkansas and Ocala National Forest Florida. That's because their cell towers are probably older and haven't been upgraded. Hot Springs in surrounded by mountains, too. Relative had Nextel and we had Verizon and we always got a signal when he couldn't. I now use my Verizon aircard with Rev-A service when I'm home and can just take my computer on the road whenever I want. Service is not "cheap" but for the convenience, it's worth it. Wi-Fi in parks is not there yet in my opinion. Good luck!

RE: Splendide W/D...Detergents used?

Any HE, only 2 TBSPS. Also someone gave me a tip to either use regular fabric softener or stop the machine after the wash, fluff the clothes and use a softener sheet. Clothes won't wrinkle as bad. Also take them out as soon as they stop. Love my washer/dryer combo!

RE: NEW TO RVING- READY TO FULL-TIME HELP!!!

A couple more: www.woodalls.com for all campgrounds. They also have a woodalls book you can purchase that now comes with a CD. www.goodsamclub.com has Trailer Life book and CD you can purchase. www.fmca.com Family Motor Coach Association They have lots of resources. Also check with the clubs for your brand of motorhome. Buy an Atlas for RVers from goodsamclub or Walmart. Lists all the Walmart stores. There are also many discount clubs and resorts you can join (we chose not to). We like Corps of Engineers parks, State Parks, Military Campgrounds (if you are retired military or disabled veteran). We have a Country Coach 33' and tow a Ford Focus. Enjoy your travels!!

RE: Toad or no Toad

We have a Country Coach and tow a Ford Focus "5" door, with manual transmission. Never know it's back there. Easy to hookup and unhook. Light weight. Relatives tow a Saturn Vue automatic "4-down" with no towing restriction. Just need brackets installed and a tow bar.

RE: Verizon Internet

I am in Brooksville, FL using Verizon wi-fi. I have Rev-A service here. Very fast. I have used this for the last 6 months and now use it at home instead of DSL. I love it. Used it on a 2-month cross country trip from FL to CA last year and there were only 2 places where the connection was more like old dial-up. Hot Springs Arkansas and a remote state park in MS. I just waited until we got to the next stop to download large emails and surf the net. I mostly had Rev-A service, the fastest. I got the wi-fi card free (my laptop doesn't have built-in wi-fi card. Shipping was free. The service is $59.99 per month, billed on my cell phone bill. Easy to set up and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

RE: NW Arkansas to Topsail in June

We like Twiltley Branch Corps of Engineers Park (MS) 9200 HAMRICK ROAD NORTH Collinsville MS 39325 From Meridian, MS, take SR 19 N for 8 mi and follow signs into the campground. you can reserve on www.recreation.gov Nice, quiet, on lake. Not fancy. Not sure if it would be out of the way if you come at it from the North. Have a safe trip! We go to Arkansas once a year from Florida. Wave as you go by!

RE: Camping near Busch Gardens Tampa - Bay Bayou?

If you haven't made reservations, Lazydays RV has a park called Rallye Park. It's near enough to Busch Gardens, has great amenities and is cheaper than Bay Bayou. Breakfast, lunch used to be included and a free newspaper. Nice pool! Link below. Have a great time! http://www.lazydays.com/rallypark.html

RE: Campsites for 36ft 5th Wheel in Fla. State Parks

Stephen Foster State Park is one of our favorites. Very quiet, peaceful. Large, level pull throughs easy for large RV. Not much to do there except hike and canoe on river, but for peace and quiet you can't beat it. Also check out the newest Florida State Park at Ocala. Silver River. Nice, gravel pull throughs, easy for a large RV. Enjoy!

RE: Why no real ovens in most dp's

I'm the cook in our motorhome. The only problem I have with a convection/microwave is that when you use the bake option, the oven gets very hot and you lose your microwave during the baking. I multi-task when cooking and use the microwave for veggies, etc. I bought a toaster oven for small baking jobs. Works great for biscuits! I also use it for small casseroles, fish, cornbread, desserts. It doesn't seem to heat up the coach as much as the convection. I still prefer the convection/microwave vs. the traditional oven. We do cook a lot in our motorhome regardless of what the sales folks say. Nothing is better than breakfast cooked in the motorhome and eaten outside!

RE: Internet Access: ATT vs. EVDO (Verizon/Sprint)

I subscribed to Verizon this year before a trip from FL to CA in Aug/Sept. We stopped in many states on the way (traveled for 2 months). Out of many, many stops, there were only 2 places where we didn't get DSL speeds. (we were in small towns where their cell towers weren't up to date). We still got slow dial-up type service, but opted to wait til the next town. The speed is faster than my DSL at home. I am so pleased with the service (Rev-A) that I'm no longer using my DSL at home. The plan I got was no activation fee, only $49.99 for the card and I installed it very easily myself. The rate is $59.99 per month which includes the cell phone number and activation of the new number assigned to the account. Unlimited access if you stay within their download rules. They bill it to my cell phone (Verizon) account. voila! I highly recommmend this service.
